Founded in 696, Salzburg (meaning Salt-Castle in German) is a beautiful town with views of the Eastern Alps and a rich history. It is divided by the Salzach river with the Altstadt (Old City) on one side and the 19th century Neutstadt (New City) on the other bank. The Altstadt is known for medieval and Baroque architecture and is most notable for being the birthplace of the famed composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Attention was brought back to Salzburg in the 20th century with the filming of the "Sound of Music".

Salzburg has a variety of activities available which are sure to please any traveler. Visit the Hohensalzburg Fortress to be entrenched in history as you take in the 360 degree views of the city and surrounding areas while touring the largest, fully preserved castle in Central Europe. If classical music is more your taste, you could visit the birthplace of Mozart and see the home that shaped his childhood.
